I need to turn graphic smileys off. (I hate those things.) I can’t figure out how, though I remember having done it in previous versions. I checked the documentation; at http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Smilies#To_Turn_off_Graphic_Smileys it tells me I should go to the Admin Panel, Select Options > Writing, then … but wait! I see no “Options” anywhere. It’s neither a top-level menu item anywhere, nor is it a sub item. I’ve looked everywhere, and I’ve had my roommate look all over his 2.6 blog, too. I give up. Where is it hiding? Is it hiding in the same place where the option to turn off all the high-bit ASCII is, and all the extraneous carriage returns? (I’m used to typing two carriage returns between paragraphs; this results in ginormous amounts of white space between my paragraphs, because WordPress tries ever so helpfully to turn a single return into two. I wish it’d stop helping me.)

Thanks for telling me where the danged Options are hidden; two of us have tried really, really hard to locate them, with no luck.

Don’t be afraid to explore a little 😉

And sounds like you might want to turn off the visual editor. You’ll find that under Users -> Your Profile.

Thanks a million, HandySolo; you’re a doll! I’m afraid I’d looked there several times, but because WordPress renders everything in such small type, it just plain escaped me. I should be good to go now!

(And someone should fix the documentation so other folks don’t go chasing down blind alleys!)

Huh; hadn’t crossed my mind. Oooh! I just tried it, and I can see my HTML! Yay for me! I like it like that! Thanks for that, too; that’s great! I hadn’t known that was an option!

    It’s a wiki — anyone can adjust it. 😉

As WordPress continues to “evolve” with each new version it can sometimes leave the docs in the dust.

Haha! Anyone just has! It’s been corrected now. Now I can help contribute in some small way. Yet another thing I didn’t know I could do. I’m always too busy mucking about in WordPress to pay attention to these things. Thanks for letting me know how I can help others out with the dox.

    Thanks!
