The following error message appears frequently when attempting to load the form: “Unable to retrieve Google Form. Please try reloading this page.”

“Frequently” being 20% of the time. I can sit here and just refresh the page and it happens.

This happens when the Google Forms plugin is unable to retrieve the content of your form from Google Docs.

The WordPress HTTP API, which is what Google Forms uses to connect with Google Docs, has a timeout after which is the server being queried doesn’t respond, it gives up and you see this message.

You can try increasing the timeout. The default is 5 seconds (I think). The value can be changed on the Advanced tab of the Google Forms settings (Dashboard->Settings->Google Forms: Advanced).

Thanks Mike, I’ll give that a try.

I also changed the secure https transport to http for the form URL, and that seems to actually have resolved the issue.

That is a good tip – I didn’t think of that but it would definitely help.
