    Hello,
I have a multisite setup under domain.com where I am selling subsites that gets the url: domain.com/site1, domain.com/site2 etc. Some of the subsites have their own domain like site1.com. My marketing site is another wordpress installation (not multisite) located in a subfolder domain.com/co that is 301 redirected from domain.com.

My question is, how can I SEO optimize this so that the links in site1.com pointing to my marketing site domain.com are registered by Google so I have better pagerank? Right now the links in site1.com is not registred by Google as links to my marketing site. Is that because the sites are under the same WordPress installation? Is it possible to change anything so that I can take advantage of the links?

Where are you seeing that they’re ‘registered’ links at all?

I have registered the site on Google. In Google Webmaster Tools you can see the external links pointing to your site that Google knows about. When I check for my site I have no external links pointing to the site.

Ah, well the thing is they are Not external, and google rightly knows that. So no, at this time you cannot.

Ok, so if I for example sell 1000 subsites all having their own domain, there will be no SEO benefit for this. Then I should have built each site as a stand alone installation on different hosting accounts. There is a big benefit to have it as a multisite installation but I guess be highly ranked on Google is very important for the marketing of the site.

Thanks for your reply, I have to find another way for marketing.

Cross linking your own sites like that is actually gaming the SEO ideas, so in general I’d stay away from that behavior. The link juice like that is meant to be from separate sites, not your own network.

Oh, and google will still be able to find out it’s you, so just don’t. One day you will be bottom of the rankings.
