Give on a page the ability to show hide post author

is there any way to add in a page the option to show or hide the post author?
i know that by default it should show it but in a custom page it doesnt have it.
can i do something like this on functions.php to include it? the following doesnt work
add_post_type_support( ‘wysijap’, ‘post_author’);
