Upgraded plugin to 0.3.b8 … and immediately lost every list on the site
-
After I updated to 0.3.b8 this morning, every APL list on our news aggregate site suddenly disappeared. Now a list will not even preview under the Admin.
No other change was made besides upgrading the plugin and site was fine before the update. I would appreciate help to get this back to how it was!
The affected site is: http://clean-round.com/

Update: The live site was restored from yesterday’s backup so it’s working again … the problem was recreated on a test installation URL:
Interesting… I wasn’t expecting a large post effect like this, and I even went through and fixed the admin preview. Although, i did modify the APLQuery class with a couple tweaks different from the last, and by the sounds of things, it’s not even querying any posts.
I may need to take a deeper look into this, but for now, what is unique about your site? Does it use pagination? Are you adding (dynamic) current post/page children or terms? Also try setting the list amount and saving presets.
I had the same problem too: post list completely disappeared. I’ve tried to change settings, nothing has worked:
http://www.laputa.it/indice-generale/Thank you EkoJr … our site (http://clean-round.com/) has a series of APL lists, no pagination, with no limit on posts (-1). We just aggregate posts in certain categories; it is APL’s excellent formatting options that make your plugin our top choice.
I can send you a PM with login details for the test site which demonstrates the problem, if that would be helpful.
It’s a great plugin, I know many others besides myself appreciate your efforts!
Ok, thanks for the heads up and the added info. Weekdays, I’m usually short on time unfortunately.
Just wondering, have you tried changing the limit of posts from -1 to 1 or more? I may have over looked that value in the setting.
I had to completely redesign the APL Query, and I have been trying to stage for other support, like pagination (which I personally don’t use much), for in the future. The old code was causing too much memory overload and it was rather clunky. So, I’d rather get others on the new APL Query.
If I can figure out what is reproducing the error, then I can just run it with xDebug locally.
I forgot to ask. Is APL displaying any alert for the Admin?
Might look something like this…(which I noticed a typo -_-)
Admin Alert – A problem has occured. A non-existent preset name has been passed use.
I haven’t seen an Admin Alert … but your suggestion of changing the post limit from -1 brought up whatever number of posts I designated, and they seem fine.
Our site doesn’t set a designated number of posts to show, because the posts vary by length … but it appears you’ve isolated the issue.
Thanks for your help, please let me know if I can supply any other info.
I was afraid so. It’s an old setting that i forgot about.
I gotta go through and see how I can implement it, because with the way WP_Query works, APL has been defaulting with pagination settings to limit posts. Before it was manually trimming the array/amount of posts/pages, but I’m trying to integrate most the operations in WP to optimized the CPU and Memory.
I think what I’ll do is turn nopaging to true for unlimited posts, and catch where the negative value is breaking the APL Query. I’ll add this bug to the list of tickets on GitHub…for now, just gonna have to trouble shoot it.
I appreciate your help … your explanation made sense, thank you.
Your response makes me wonder if our site design could be better automated … I’ll look into pagination. Thanks for the info!
The same thing happened to my site – All of my Lists disappeared. No preview showing in the back end and no list in the front end. I had each list. I deleted the updated plugin and reuploaded the older version and everything is back. I had the limit set at 100, so what worked for JohnRoyce did not work for me. I did not receive any error messages. After I uploaded the old files I am no longer getting the preview in the back end, but the front end is working fine, so I won’t update again until you have solved the problem.
I can’t include a link as the site has not launched yet and is in maintenance mode.
I appreciate your work on this plugin. It is the only thing I found that works for what I need. Thank you!
Do you have Any/All Selected for terms? Or anything that’s relatively in common with the other problematic presets?
Hey, just adding my 2 cents ..
Upgrade from 0.3.b7 to 0.3.b8 broke my preset as well.
I’m using a very simple one : selecting one post category, order by date descending, list amount -1.
In 0.3.b8, the preview is not working with list amount -1, nor the actual page. I did some various tests and got an error message at some point : “A non-existent preset name has been passed use.”
I deleted the preset and the database, recreated the preset and still not working. But at some point I made it work with a list amount of 1000 (I have around 700 posts to list), this setting was not working just after the upgrade though.
When trying to modify the preset to list amount -1, it breaks the preset and nothing shows up on the page. Switching back to list amount 1000 works again.
Even if I made it work again, I’m happy to test a patch or another version if you need help to fix that issue.
Cheers,
JP
