• Hello!

Is there any way to make Comicpress 4.1 multilingual?

A few years there is a way with WordPress 2.9.2, Comicpress 2.8 theme and xLanguage 2.0.4 plugin, but with some many updates all this become incompatible =(

This is our site, I wanted to update it, but i need the same functions http://ka-boom.com.mx/kronikas/

  • Fortunately, ComicPress is free and so php sources visible… A very quick tests on the latest version (and xili-language 2.12 on WP 3.9) show that it follows the WP rules… and he is translation ready… so can be bilingual…
Please note that you need important works to achieve a full realtime multilingual/bilingual theme like 2014-xili and your presented version. After a deeper diagnosis (3 to 4 hours), a job of one to two days is expectable if good knowledge in CMS and WP (and used plugins….). This job must be prudently done on a local host clone and after backups…
That what I can say at this preliminary step…
    Good work

Oh! yes, thank you about that.

What I mean is to have the function of a comic strip show depending on the language.

With xLanguage we made a modification in comicpress 2.8 to show a comic strip in spanish (with the “es” in the filename) or in english (with the “en” in the filename).

These modification was made it in the files:

functions.php adding a filter for “en” and “es” files
displaycomic.php adding xlanguage_current_language_code() in the image to show (comic strip) depending on the language.

I don’t know how to made the same in Comicpress 4.1…

I think it would have to add filters “es” and “en” for somehow recognize the files (comic strip) in Spanish and English uploaded through the Comic Easel…

    What do you think?

xili-language offers all the php functions to detect current language displayed. So it is easy to create specific functions according Comic Architecture and multilingual targets. For attachements, it is also possible to assign to a media object a language without specifying special name or suffix.
As I said before, you need a ‘little’ work to achieve your goal 😉

Comic’s are a custom post type and use the ‘featured image’ of the post to display as the comic.

As long as the language plugin you use can switch those you’re golden.

As for the navigation; you must use the navigation widget and set it to in-chapter or (not in chapter) one or the other I think works, but the other doesn’t.
