Have you tried it with a different theme to rule out any possibility that it is a problem with your theme? If not, please do.
I tried the twenty twelve stock theme and the same thing happened. It only seems to happen when under category pages.
I’m amazed that this would be happening to just me since I have hardly done any custom work and have very few plugins.
Oh well….
Have you tried disabling the drop down category widget, or showing it as a list to see what happens?
Also, is the category widget you are using the standard WordPress one?

OK.. I have confirmed the bug. It only happens when the category widget is active. I will try to get this fixed ASAP.
I will be releasing an update soon that partially corrects the problem, however it sometimes adds a couple of posts from other categories to the recent FAQs list. I have not yet figured out how to solve that problem, so I added a “hide on category archive pages” option to the widget form. Checking that will prevent it from showing on the category pages. That is just a temporary solution until I can narrow down why extra posts are showing up that are not even in the FAQ category. Please try it with the hide option checked and unchecked, as it may work fine for you.

Well, now I have decided to use the category widget so I will just have to put something else in that spot on category pages… or not worry about it.
Something similar is happening with the Recent Posts widget on my site–it’s also showing odd items like category links and one page that doesn’t even exist, but only on archive pages. Bizarre.
