Puzzled and frustrated by unwanted Taboola ads

Hi guys,
at some point all new posts I publish started getting those annoying ads: “From the web. Sponsored contend by Taboola”. Frustrating! Did a research on the problem and checked the website for infected files aswell as my PC. Nothing! Turned off all plugins – ads still there!
What I notice is that only recent posts get this while the older are clean: recent post old post.

Please give me some tips or ideas where this could have came from and how to get rid of it. Asking the webhost for a backup would lead to republishing months of posts. Furthermore not knowing what happend won’t prevent me from ending up in the same situation.

What happens if you switch to a default unedited theme with all plugins deactivated? Make sure you flush any server cache in use (Your site is using W3 Total Cache, review with plugin provider how to manually force a cleanup) and clear your local browser cache also.

My guess is the ads are from:

Test site as noted, add one plugin or theme back at a time (after you note a clean site) and test after each one is added back to isolate the issue. Also ask host about this if using a ‘free’ account.

What I think that there is something installed on your PC, because I was also facing this kind of issue.

Hey, thank you for your quick response!
I`ve been using the theme for almost 4 years now, so I doubt the problem is there.
The script you pointed out is for traffic tracking purposes.
I inspected the code as you suggested and I’m quite sure this is the begining of my problem:

I emailed the guys at taboola to remove the website from their network, in the code you can even see campaing and banner IDs!
I`ll try cleaning the cache as you suggested and will adress the issue to the host aswell.
We’ll keep updating as it seems many people face similair issues.

Hi lahorimela,
I`ll try other anti-virus programs, however its beyond me how software malicious could lead to uploading unwanted code to my site and not spamming only my browsers.
But its a wonderful world full of surprises isn’t it?

Yeah that’s so surprised but i suggest you beware with some malicious software’s. e.g Ads blocker, website unlocker etc.

Finally figured it out. Since I got banned from Adsense I turned to Somoto installer for monetarization. They have changed their code without asking adding the Taboola script.
Thanks for advices
