First, it wasn’t adding media to posts through the media library – it was just stalling. Media library was ok – though I ftped in to delete some images just in case.

Now, 500 Internal server errors, everywhere! I can’t even get in to disable all the plugins. Help!

  • Try checking your site’s error logs for a more specific error message. Your hosts should be able to help you accessing your site’s error logs.

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@relationsinternational.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I have contacted my hosts, but they have not gotten back to me. Since the problem started with the media library, I figured fixing that might fix this?

now whole site seems to be down – what went wrong?

again, I asked my host – and they have not gotten back to me – but since at least part of the problem seems to be with wordpress, I figured I would try to fix that problem at the same time. No???

Without a specific error message, there is very little we can suggest.

my host says the only error they got was overuse; they freed it by moving it to a VPS, but the problems of the media library continue

Do I need to start a new ticket?

As esmi says, there is not much to go on to be able to provide a focused answer.

    Take a backup before proceeding.

The generic recovery procedure is to reset the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Apparently inactive plugins can still have effects, so deactivating may not be enough.

You should now be left with a basic WordPress install. If the problem has cleared, upload fresh downloads of your plugins one by one, testing between each one to see if one is causing the problem.

If the problem remains with the basic install, re-upload all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
