    Hi,

I think some script/plugin is causing a lot of emails to go out from my site. I am on a shared hosting and they have suspended my site due to the large number of emails. I would like to start with a clean install and restore posts & content to fix the issue. However, the challenge is that I am based in India and the hosting provider is in the USA.

Due to the time zone difference, the gap between the hosts un-suspending my site and me trying to login to the backend causes the scripts to run again putting the site back in suspended mode.

Is there a way I can have my hosting provider bring up the site without this cycle being repeated? I am thinking of asking them to upload a .maintenance file, but I am not sure if it will suspend every activity on the website (DB connectivity/scheduled activities etc).

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Ramesh

  • Hi Ramesh,
assuming a plugin sends those mass emails I suggest you to log in via FTP and move the wp-content/plugins/EMAIL_PLUGIN to a location outside of that folder.
WordPress won’t find it anymore and auto disables the plugin.

Let us know how that works.

Thanks Gerald. I will try the FTP method, though I am not certain which plugin is causing the problem.

I was going through my email and I noticed that there has been a spike in user registrations (bots no doubt). Could the emails be WP trying to email all users?

    Regards,
    Ramesh
