@johanna2patricia – Although I can appreciate what you are noticing and that there are duplicate id designators in use, which tends to trip up most “validators” the more important thing to note is that “Everything works fine”.

Unfortunately most WordPress installations will not “validate”, especially once you start adding content. For the most part, validators are better used if there are issues with the layout, for example, to help find the HTML element that is causing issues.

    Hij Cais,
That isn’t true, that WordPress doesnt validate. I managed to get all my blogs validated. The only thing that I can’t seem to solve is the Duplicate Id from Nextgen.
    So therefore my question.
It must be possible tot solve this.
And saying that it is alright because everything works alright isn’t a good reason.
Everybody knows that validation is important.

@johanna2patricia – If you must have 100% validated sites then there is not likely going to be anything I can help you with on this.

You are more than welcome to put your thoughts and ideas forward as a Feature Request here is all I can currently offer: http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/feature-voting/

As to having a WordPress site validate … to be honest, I have never seen one validate 100% so very good for you to be able to accomplish that. Well Done!

@cais, that is too bad, that you can’t help me.
When I started validating my blogs there were several plugins, that didn’t validate. I contacted the authors of those plugins and they helped me validate their plugins.
Unfortunately I don’t know enough from the Nextgen Code to try changing things myself.
And as far as I can see it, the feature voting is for Pro members.

@johanna2patricia – I generally do not recommend modifying the code, especially since the next update will over-write your modifications … and although I may not be able to offer any assistance in modifying the code base, I would support your Feature Request to have NextGEN Gallery be more likely to validate. As it is, the general user-base has not shown that aspect of the plugin to be a high priority.

@johanna2patricia – Those are interesting articles that offer varying opinions on the benefits of validation … with none actually providing a compelling reason for my own personal uses to ensure everything is 100% “valid”.

I would say it is more important to understand there are “validator” tools available to use as well as to understand when and why they should be used. I would also stress it is important to also understand what the validator tools’ output means.

In that sense I can fully support the use of these tools and efforts to meet a goal of 100% validation but I would still not be compelled to not accept anything less, especially after working with WordPress for as long as I have.

@cais, I understand that validation isn’t sacred. The problem is all my blogs contain a lot of pictures and I can’t stand it if I get so many errors. See here: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.secretsistersblog.com%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0&user-agent=W3C_Validator%2F1.3+http%3A%2F%2Fvalidator.w3.org%2Fservices
But I haven’t enough knowledge to solve this, so I have to rely on others.
For now, with pain in my heart, I let it be and I hope in the future there will be a solution for this.
    Good luck!

    Any update on this?
Is this going to be fixed in a future release?

@johanna2patricia – This may be addressed in a future release but it is not a priority at this time. We are aware of your concerns, and there are a few others that see this as an issue as well but we feel there are much more pressing concerns to address at this time.

    Thanks for your continued interest.

    Hi Cais,
I understand you all are very busy, but this issue already exists for a long time. I have little knowledge of scripting, but it can’t be too difficult to change the id problem.
I now use the Inpost gallery next to Nextgen. That way I can minimize the nextgen id problem.
But it isn’t a real solution of course.
At the end of the nextgen code there is a second validation error.
I am not at my desktop right now, so I can’t give you the exact error code. I will do that tomorrow.

@johanna2patricia – As I noted in your most recent report (my apologies for not recalling any previous ones) I have put this to our developers for further review.

Thanks for sending us this latest report on the validation issue.
