I have been using Smush It for several months and loving it. Recently, it started taking longer and longer to upload images. Finally, images stopped loading at all. I finally realized that Smush It was the problem and disabled it. As soon as it was gone, my photos uploaded normally again. Before disabling, images took several minutes to upload, and then most of the time, they would come up with an error and not upload at all.

I’m not sure exactly when the problem started. It just got worse and worse for about a week and a half, and then finally quit working at all on 5/5.

Please help! I have disabled the plugin, but I’d like to have it back!

  • I noticed the same thing and had to disable it. WP Engine concurred that it was on SmushIt’s side of things as well.

Thanks, Clint. Glad to know it’s not a problem with my site. So, is there a way to notify Smush. It of the problem? I thought posting here was how, but I think this forum is just users helping users. (I’m just basing that on the fact that when I’ve asked questions on other topics, I’ve never heard anything from the actual makers of the plugins.)

I’m guessing we’re in a bit of limbo as this is Yahoo! The developers are listed as:

    http://profiles.wordpress.org/wpmudev/
    http://profiles.wordpress.org/alexdunae/

But I think it’s likely an API and Yahoo! server load issue at this point.

I had the same exact problem. It occurred either before or with WP update 3.9. Disabling Smush.it did the trick.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for reporting the issue, it’s actually been reported here previously:
    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/http-error-36

It indeed has to do with Yahoo’s service currently, seems to be running very slowly, if at all.

We’ll see how that goes from here, but there are some possible workarounds noted in that thread that can help avoid trouble with it right now.

I’ve also discussed with our developers, we’ll see what more can be done on our end to provide a better experience. 🙂

    Thanks,
    David
