Hi – I tried editing the submission form changing data-required=”true” to false on the user-submitted-url field but it still works as a required field.

How do I make that field optional?

Correct, that option is not supported in the free version, so you can either modify the free plugin directly, or check out the Pro version, which makes it easy to require or not require fields as you wish: http://plugin-planet.com/usp-pro/
