    Hi,

In the latest version (2.1.2) it’s possible to define User Roles for a Quantity Rule. This is exactly what I needed, so thank you for adding the feature!

However, I would like to be able to define User Roles also when not using a predefined Quantity Rule. When editing a product, there is a “Product Quantity Rules” area, with “Override Quantity Rules with Values Below” option. Under that option I can set Step Value, Minimum Quantity, and Maximum Quantity. Would it be possible to add User Roles also under that option?

    Thank you,
    Khaleesi

  • Khaleesi,

Thanks for using the plugin. Your right that the plugin does not support roles definitions on a per product basis. While it is possible to add that functionality to the plugin, I’m not sure the time required would be worth the benefit provided. Have you tried making more specific rules and using those?

If you need this for a specific project, we do offer additional support here: http://wpbackoffice.com/contact/

Have you tried making more specific rules and using those?

The problem with making specific rules is that they require either using the Product Categories or Product Tags. In our web page, both of those fields will be shown in our product pages. We do not want to make phantom categories or tags that are only used for the purpose of quantity rules, as these categories/tags would be visible in the product page. And we can not use real categories/tags because there are products with same categories/tags that do not have the same quantity rules.

I can think of a couple of different solutions to the problem:
    1) Adding a list of all products to the page where you add a new quantity rule, and you could check only the products that would use the rule (would apply only if at least one product is selected)
    2) Save/Use rule feature: When adding a new quantity rule, you could save the rule under a name of your choice. Then in the product page instead of using “Override Quantity Rules with Values Below” you could use “Use a predefined quantity rule” and choose the saved rule from a list.

Perhaps one of those options would benefit other users as well?

Hm, you have some interesting ideas. I had considered the first when originally writing this plugin and didn’t think it would scale very well. For people with over a couple hundred products, checking them off would be cumbersome. This is why I implemented rules with overrides.

Your second idea however works with the structure of the plugin and would even allow the user to import rules into their products just like they would with a manual override.

There is going to be a new release coming out soon and I’ll see what it takes to add this in on the following release.

    Thanks,
