Some things you might try:
* Flush your permalinks. http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-wordpress-posts-returning-404-error/
* Switch to a default theme like Twenty Thirteen to see if that fixes it. Unfortunately both Avada and Genesis are known to conflict with TEC. We have reached out to both theme developers and are actively working towards solutions. In the mean time though, issues remain.
* Disable all plugins save for TEC while on a default theme.

Also search the forums here, there are some interesting outlier causes I have seen. One person noticed that WP was looking for an attachment associated with a given post type. The truth is I have seen this sort of issue more often than most. While the symptoms are the same the causes tend to vary wildly. It is sort of of like the common cold, while it is not the same bug each time the symptoms are still the same. Although, in fairness to us more often than not it is not a bug in our code/something we can even “fix”. Please let us know how it goes. Thanks!

Brook, this is a problem with your plugin, and it has something to do with the way it handles permalinks. You can do a vanilla instal, with no other plugins, and if you change the default permalink settings in WordPress your plugin will get an error 404 when trying to view a single event post / page.
Flushing permalinks fixed it for me, and events I added after work fine.
DaymonH, I am unable to reproduce that result and we have tested it thoroughly. In 3.5 Default permalinks does have a conflict with recurring events, but that does not sound like your issue. It sounds like when you change it from default permalinks that you are finding a problem.
This is probably unique to your server. You need to make sure that your server fully supports Apache mod_rewrite for permalinks to work. The fall back /index.php/* do work for some but we have seen issues from time-to-time, so mod_rewrite is required.
If you feel that your server environment is setup to support this, would you mind posting a phpinfo file to your server and linking it here, and also your .htaccess file? Maybe we can discover something in there. Of course please run through the above steps as well because generally the permalink flush fixes it, or one of the other steps. Thanks!
