Having looked into the _wp_image_editor_choose() function which WordPress uses to determine available image editors, it appears that if ImageMagick is enabled, it is in fact use to generate image sizes (thumbnails). This plugin may provide some additonal functionality, but from what I can tell it’s not required to actually benefit from ImageMagick in WordPress.

huumm it’s a really good point. is anyone out there who tested the pictures quality with and without plugin and is able to give us some feedback?

I still like it because it tells me if the ImageMagik plugin is properly installed and you can easily change quality settings. Besides that I don’t know if it’s needed.
