This is going to sound ultra silly I am sure…

I purchased my WP.com address about a month and a half ago. Recently I decided I wanted to self host, signed up with BlueHost, and have just today begun the process of importing my content into the .org system.

My (silly) question is that I cannot for the life of me figure out if the import worked. All of my content is there when I log into the wp-admin portion of my site. Comments, posts, pictures, etc. However I can still access my stats, and if I use the short cut to write a new post it diverts me back to the wordpress.com area. Does this mean I somehow didn’t complete the import? I received a confirmation email from WP saying it was a success…. Please help.

Did you create a http://yourname.wordpress.com address or did you buy a http://yourname.com using wordpress.com ? If you did buy your domain name using wordpress.com it is possible that the domain is still hosted by WordPress.com. Just because the import was successful doesn’t mean all the configurations are complete. Did you set up your site properly on BlueHost? Also please do mention your website url.

I originally had a http://www.sproutinganoldsoul.wordpress.com then in January I purchased the domain through wordpress. To be http://www.sproutinganoldsoul.com.

I believe I set up my site on BlueHost properly..? I suppose I must not have considering my current issue though.

It looks like your domain is still hosted at WordPress.com. The site is pointing to WordPress.com name servers. See the details here You need to login to your WordPress.com account and change the name servers to point to your blue host servers. Only then you can get to host your site on Blue-host.

Please follow the instructions from here http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org to successfully move the site from wordpress.com to blue host.

So I did the import/export part and everything in the link except I didn’t buy the guided transfer. So that’s the missing part I guess? The problem. I’ll have to do the guided transfer?

You can do the transfer yourself too. The instructions are mentioned in the same post. If you are not sure, Just buy the guided transfer from the WordPress.com store or Please feel free to get the help from the Happiness Engineers on the WordPress.com, They will help you with the guided transfer.
