urgent issue! Please help!

    I’m suddenly getting this:

    Warning: require(/home/nfd1/public_html/wp-includes/compat.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/nfd1/public_html/wp-settings.php on line 117

    Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/nfd1/public_html/wp-includes/compat.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/nfd1/public_html/wp-settings.php on line 117

    Can anyone render assistance?

    Did you search the forums? This was an easy fix, no idea if the problem is exactly the same.

    I did. But in my case, my includes folder is NOT missing. I have no issue in re-uploading wordpress but I forget which version I was using. Is there a way to tell from my files on the server?

    I’m sure you know what WP you have on your computer and transferred to your server?

    Actually, I’m working from another computer and the original install was done by someone else.

    OK, based on how long I know the install has been on the server, I re-uploaded the wp-includes file from 2.3.3

    Now I’m only getting: Error establishing a database connection

    That sounds like the wrong info in the wp-config.php.

    odd, because it shouldn’t be. The wp-config file hasn’t been altered that I can tell.

    Is there any permissions-related issues from the wp-includes folder?

    I suppose not, the wp-config is in the root and that’s the file that points WP to your database.

    ok, I’ll redo my wp-config. How do you recover the password from cpanel? Or can I just assign a new user and password to that DB?

    That depends on your host, but I believe I can just change usernames and passwords of database users in my control panel. But you can surely see the username in the control panel and just change the password to something new if necessary.

    I can see the username, just not the password.

    Then just change it to something you’re sure you know and edit the wp-config so you’re sure it’s correct. That should solve the problem or at least eliminate one option for the error.

    Passwords are rarely visible in modern applications. You can *change* the password, but not find out what the existing one is.

    What do you think about the original problem? Any ideas? I’m just brainstorming here.
