medicine theme not working in Internet explorer

Hi, I’ve installed the medicine basic theme to try it out and it looks good in all the browsers except for internet explorer 8 (and others) is this a css issue or is there a patch to fix this? Also, notice on the mobile (eg iphone5) the Header 2 overlaps and wraps the last two letters of a heading rather than resizing in all browsers.
