Bulk smush.it or multi smush.it doesn't work

I don’t seem to be able to get the smush.it to work, except for if I click each individual “Process now” link in the gallery. I’ve tried doing it bulk (4191 photos, all under 1MB) and also by selecting multiple (10) images in the media page and selecting bulk actions and bulk smush.it

I’ve left the computer running overnight with the bulk page and nothing. 🙁 I had previously had WP Super Cache but tried disabling it, with no difference.

I get the following 404 errors in my logs while smush-ing:

Hi @tangcla, hope you’re doing well today! 🙂

Thanks for posting. Could you please try enabling the debug option at Settings > Media?

Then try ticking just a single item from the Media Library and selecting the Bulk Smush.it option?

That should yield some clues as to what’s occurring and we can see how to sort it from there.

I just selected the whole page (of 100) and pressed bulk smush.it – it did about 70 before the page stopped updating.

Hi @tangcla,

Sorry for the delay here. I’m admittedly stumped as to why that would work just fine at first and fail on after the initial bunch.

Could you try turning debugging on in WordPress itself, like so:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress

And let us know what errors turn up with that?

Also, I’m not sure if memory’s a problem here. I would think it’d turn up a blank page if so. But just in case, could you let us know your PHP memory limit?

Or you could bump that up by adding something like this to wp-config:

define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');

Hi David,
I’ve managed to work around this by brekaing down my gallery into 50 results per page, and then running all 84 pages of my media individually. While not ideal, it’s only something I’d have to do once (as I have auto-smush on upload enabled). Happy to report it as closed for now.
