• I’m running NextGen 2.0.57 and whenever I set the thumbnails to use gallery-caption.php, when the site is displayed on a smartphone, the thumbnails don’t realign/stack vertically. Instead, they smoosh on top of each other, keeping 3 to a row. When I switch off this caption template, they stack vertically as they should. I’ve tried this on 2 Genesis responsive themes, and Twenty Fourteen. Anyone else running into this, and what, if anything, can be adjusted in the captions template? Or, is there another way to display captions without selecting that template?

@hollykny – The “caption” template is left over from NextGEN Legacy versions and was not designed to be “responsive”. You are more than welcome to customize it so that it suits your site’s needs as they pertain to “responsive web design”.

    Thanks!

    Hi Cais,

Thanks for your reply! Are there plans in the NextGen queue to make a caption template that’s responsive? Because if I turn off that template, the thumbnnails adjust to one column on a phone, so it’s odd to me that just adding a line or two of text would make them display the way they’re displaying.

Also, when I visit the NextGen site, it claims that all included galleries are responsive (see http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/wordpress-gallery-plugin/ ) so it’s a bit confusing.

@hollykny – A very good point, I guess we may need to add the caveat that not NextGEN Legacy Templates still included with NextGEN Gallery may not perform as responsively as the standard gallery displays.

We would be more than happy to read your thoughts and idea on responsive captioned gallery displays for NextGEN Gallery on our Feature Request form here: http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/feature-voting/ although we do offer captions on some of our NextGEN Pro Gallery displays which may also be suitable for your needs.

Thanks for your speedy reply. Yes, it is confusing to include reference to the old templates… especially as all of my customers (I’m a website designer) want captions so I have no choice but to use that template without getting into custom code. I’ll check out the NextGEN Pro options again tho I’m pretty sure I didn’t see reference to captions before when I looked.

Sorry for second message. On your site’s page here, I don’t see any options with captions under the thumbnails in the Pro version. Can you point me to an example? My customers like a simple grid, nothing fancy, with captions under the thumbs that are clickable to the lightbox display. http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/nextgen-pro/ But I don’t see captions on that link under any option…
