I noticed something a bit weird on my site earlier last month, but it seems to have resolved itself now. And then a couple of days ago I did read that there are a couple of bugs in Chrome – here we go –
Chrome bug affecting web fonts – February 4, 2014
Chrome having issues displaying fonts (replaces with Helvetica Neue)
Chrome bug affecting web fonts
I’ve just received reports from a remote user that at least one of my pages is showing no text at all (images are displayed correctly and seem to be positioned OK). He is using Chrome on a Windows PC.
I’ve tried to recreate the problem at my end (various browsers & devices) but without success.
Googling for this issue I can only find this which sounds similar but is for a completely different plugin – http://wordpress.org/support/topic/google-fonts-are-not-loading?replies=6
Sounds like it *might* be some sort of caching error, but that fix isn’t applicable to this plugin anyway.
I see this plugin has not been updated for a while, and there’s not been any signs of the author in this support forum for some time. I just noticed too that the link from the plugin admin panel to the author’s own site takes you to a 404.
So I’m sad to say that it might be time to jump ship.
This plugin has been updated recently and seems better supported –
Easy Google Fonts – http://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-google-fonts/
(I’m surprised that Google Font plugins haven’t really taken off, although I guess that many WP themes actually include this functionality builtin nowadays).
I’ve been using Google fonts Open Sans manually using @import, and recently noticed the text was not displaying in Chrome unless I viewed the page source or inspected said element – then it would magically appear. I tried this plugin to see if made a difference, but got the same results. Seems the problem lies not with this plugin, but with Chrome. This workaround seems to work, for now.
