I tried to install Styles 1.1.7 for my TwentyTwelve theme and I get an effort message that it failed because “Destination folder already exists.” I then installed Styles: TwentyTwelve and activated it. However, when I go to a page, I get a message that “Styles is installed, but not active. Please activate Styles.” When I click the link to activate, I’m sent to a page that is blank except for the following error message: “The plugin does not have a valid header.” What do I need to do to fix this problem. I really hope you can help. This plugin is the answer to my prayers!

  • I’d suggest deleting the Styles plugin and then re-install it.

Thanks for the response. The problem is that the Styles plugin doesn’t even show up in my list of plugins! When I get the error message, it does give me the destination folder that it’s supposed to be in, but I have no idea how to access it so that I can even remove it. Please help!

It sounds like you have a partial copy of the plugin in your wp-content/plugins folder. You’ll need to log in to your host over FTP, then delete wp-content/plugins/styles, then reinstall from the WordPress admin.

FTP process can vary by host — try Googling “how to use ftp” with your host’s name. For example, “How to access ftp hostgator”

    Problem solved! THANK YOU!!!

    Hi, @paul Clark.
I ran into the same problem. (Though without the debug notices)
Perhaps your should examen your cleanup procedure when user uninstalls the plugin.

Thanks for the suggestion, violacase. There is no “cleanup procedure” when plugins are installed — the root cause was from an errant deploy to the wordpress.org repository. It has since been resolved and shouldn’t happen again. Thanks for reaching out and helping others with the issue!

I’ve done all methods of installing, uninstalling, reinstalling, FTP, web, etc. and still can’t get Styles to work. Would anyone else know any other methods I could try?

    Thanks,

    Terry
