(You closed my original support request and deemed it “resolved” before it was resolved.)

Starting 3/2/2014 at 2:58:54 pm ET, my (free) WordFence automated scans resulted in “Network is unreachable” error. Previously (I installed WordFence on 2/24) there had been no problems.

The full activity log message was:

Scan terminated with error: We received an error response when trying to contact the Wordfence scanning servers. The HTTP status code was [0] and the curl error number was [7] and the error from CURL was: Failed to connect to 69.46.36.8: Network is unreachable.

I have tried multiple manual scans on 3/2, 3/3, and 3/4. All of them (and all of the automated scans) resulted in the same error.

Yesterday, in that other thread, you advised me as follows:

Sounds like your hosting provider has installed a new firewall that is blocking your server from connecting to external web services. Please log a support call with them and tell them your web server needs to be able to talk to:

    noc1.wordfence.com ports 80 and 443 and
    noc3.wordfence.com port 9050

    I did that.

I spoke with my hosting support people. They told me that those ports are NOT blocked and that no changes have been made to the firewall that would affect access to those ports.

    Please advise. Thank you.

You were right, Wordfence. Why did I ever doubt you.

I called my hosting company back, and a different support tech confirmed there was blocking, contradicting what the first tech had told me.

    All seems good now.
