• Hi Folks,

Here’s my first custom theme for a client.

    http://www.jaycollinsband.com/

Jay Collins is a musician who needed an easy way to manage his own website. WordPress as CMS was the solution, and I applied my own design as a theme.

We use the fabulous GigPress for schedule management, and the store is powered by IndieKazoo (not a WordPress plug-in, yet. Just an iFrame for now.)

We like the result because it doesn’t look like a WordPress site, except for the blog page.

What do you think? Thanks for the feedback.

  • Well, the site has gone live already, right? So .. does it matter what we think now? The time to ask that question was before launch.

You should munge the raw email addy on the contact page. Use a plugin like Obfuscate Email to accomplish this. Nice clean design. Thanks for not including music on page load. 😉

I like it and seems cool for a musician site.
But i think that having lots of audio players, one for each song is too much. You could find other solutions like having one instance of a flash player with a playlist and the visitor could choose the file he wanted to hear.

I think the site is very, very nice. Cool look for a band. I love the header – simple, but different.

    Thanks All,

Yes, it was already live, but suggestions are always helpful — for corrections, mods, and future projects. 🙂

I’ll have to check out Obfuscate Email plugin. We use Google Apps Small business Gmail for all emails, and they do an almost perfect job of filtering SPAM, so I care less and less about obfuscation.

Yes, too many audio players; any WP-friendly flash players to suggest that are easy to manage for a non-techie client?

Busy updating all other WP installs to 2.5.1 now.

May want to investigate these musician-oriented plugins too:

Try this for audio. It’s geared to play one song (like you might feature on a new album), but you can comma-separate a list of files. And *unfortunately* for now: MP3s only.
