I don’t know if this will work for 2.5.1, but I tested it on an earlier version of WP but not sure if it’s 2.5-proof.

mosey: Unfortunately not, it doesn’t recognize any of my categories 🙁
category Access 0.8.2 would be so perfect!! However it doesn’t hide the title and the comment count 🙁 I’m not that good it altering PHP so I don’ät know if it’s anything that I could alter my self in the pluginfile.
Sorry to hear that, junipingla. >_< I’ve just come across another plugin called Allow Categories which (according to the comments) does seem to work ok with 2.5. According to the notes: it acts like a category allower rather than an excluder.
Although I don’t know much about PHP, might be worth poking about Access by Category 0.8.2 later.
mosey: Thank you for trying to help me out. Unfortunately Allow categories didn’t do the trick either. I made up a fake user and denied access to all categories but that user can still see and read posts posted in those categories.
@junipingla, Sorry I’m not being of much help here! One last try at another plugin: Disclose Secret The comments again show that it does work for 2.5.1, but only for posts but not pages. The good news is that the plugin is very well documented and is being actively developed.
And for category access, this thread is a little bit dated, but it mentions some sort of patch for Category Access. However, the patch doesn’t appear to work for everyone and the version number for the thread is WP 2.3.

I will! The problem now is that the category is listed in the category listing aswell as comments made to the posts in the category I want to hide is listed in recent comments plugin so I need to find out how to hide it for the specific users that don’t have permission to the category.

p/s: It seems that Allow Categories might work with 2.5+ after all (with reference to this thread) and the plugin author does appear to respond to emails. With thanks to RayGene for this information.
