I’ve just installed Jetpack and connected it to my WordPress.com account.

I have difficulty understanding how the total number of subscribers is calculated.

Apparently it consists of “WordPress.com Followers (x)” and “Email only Followers (y)”, and the total number x+y is shown at the top in Site Stats >> Followers (x+y) and in the sidebar widget on the blog, under “Join (x+y) other subscribers”.

The problem is, the x number is incorrect. It always shows 1, when in fact there are more subscribers via WordPress.com. At the moment, if I go to Site Stats >> Followers >> WordPress.com Followers, I see 8 followers, not 1.

Does it just take phenomenally long to update, or is there a bug?

    Hi!

The numbers don’t update right away, that’s correct. They do update about once a day. Also, some folks can be both WordPress.com Followers and email subscribers; we don’t double-count them. In any case, if you give me your site’s URL, I can double-check for you.

    Thanks!

    Hi Richard,

Thanks for your reply. I understand the update delay and ignoring double subscribers (of which I don’t have any so far). Could you still take a look, since the total number of “WordPress.com Followers” is still 1 instead of 11, 20 hours after setting Jetpack up. Maybe it needs 24 hours to update, but maybe it’s still a glitch. Can’t harm to look, right? 🙂

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi Richard,

It’s definitely been more than 24 hours now, and ‘WordPress.com Followers’ still shows 1 instead of the actual number.

    Could you please check this?

    Thanks.

    Hi Xariexis,

Could you show me a screenshot of the 11 (or is it 8) that you see?

    Hey Richard,

Sure. You can see a screenshot here.

I suspect the one follower that is counted correctly is the one at the bottom, who is much older than the rest. The rest are followers of my blog after I installed (& connected) Jetpack. That one follower at the bottom was simply there right after installation.

    Hi Xariexis,

You’re right, that doesn’t seem right; I see the same thing here: https://wordpress.com/my-stats/?blog=36799190&blog_subscribers&type=wpcom&unit=1

I’ve asked the developers to take a closer look at this, then. I’ll get back to you!

    Hi Xariexis!

We’ve fixed the issue on our end so the count should be correct now. If it seems to not want to update again, do let me know!

Yes, thank you very much, Richard! It works fine now. 🙂
