Support » Plugin: Infopopup » Why won't popup work on this page

Got the popup working just fine on one page on site but can’t get it to work on Home page.

I’m trying to add Testimonials via InfoPopup at the bottom of each of the 3 columns. I created the popup ~[infopopup:challengetestimonials]~
just like the one that works, inserted it into HTML via Text panel , like this:
    ~<h2>What is it?</h2>
    • It’s a fast on-line sales skills builder.
    • It uses golf to create a fun way to learn.
    • It’s a whole new way to build 9 sales skills.
    [infopopup:challengetestimonials]~

It looks like this on the visual:
    What is it?

    • It’s a fast on-line sales skills builder.

    • It uses golf to create a fun way to learn.

    • It’s a whole new way to build 9 sales skills.

    [infopopup:salesskills]

Any idea what’s going on and how I can correct it? Much appreciate any suggestions – I am not too technical but can follow directions!

    Hi,
Would you send me a link to the page where InfoPopup does work – I went thru the site but couldn’t find any instances where it’s actually been set up and that includes the Homepage – all I can see are the CSS references in the source.

I will then be able to help you further.
    Thanks,
    Simon

    Hi Simon,

Sure appreciate your willingness to help. Sent you an email – not sure I can post a link that works for you since the pages I’m editing are published “privately”. If there is a way, just let me know!

OK, well if you could publish one of the pages but ensuring it doesn’t appear on your menu bar then I could have a look.

Failing that, I can only suggest that you:
    1. Test this elsewhere on your site, or on other site then once you see it working, start eliminating possible causes
    2. Ensure that there are no conflicts with other plugins that would stop this from working (see other post by CBKDSC in this forum).

Let me know how you get on.

    Hi again, Simon,

I just published the 2 draft pages and, you’re right, they aren’t visible to site visitors because they aren’t on the nav tabs!! So obvious … once you know! Thanks!

Page where your plugin works (9 proven sales skills): http://www.mygoforthegreen.com/challenge-draft-overview/

    Page where just code appears:

Please let me know if you need anything further. Your help is much appreciated!

    Hi Linda,
Thanks, it’s useful to be able to see the pages. OK, on the fist page link which works, press CTRL+U to see the source – down at line 127 (if using Chrome) you will see the spans and classes inserted by the InfoPopup script. Then at the bottom of the page, you will see the jQuery to make it work (just do a page search for infopopup and it will show you where these instances are).

Now, do the same for the page that doesn’t work, and you will see non of this. In fact, the shortcode is appearing as text on the web page which means it’s not executing.
I can’t tell why exactly, but here are some things to check:
    1. Make sure the correct shortcode is deployed, and try adding it at text level rather than visual editor level.
    2. Are you running any plugins on that page alone that may be conflicting/ blocking InfoPopup?
If so, disable plugins in turn and see if it fixes the issue.
    3. Try the non-working shortcode on the page that does work, and then on another random page to prove it fires up.

Let me know how you get on with those.

    Thanks,
    Simon

Wow! Thanks for all the suggestions. Will work through them all and let you know how I do. It’s a great plugin and I’m excited about getting it working on our revamped site.

    Hi again, Simon,

    Here’s where I am…

Been working on your #1 suggestion in the first block on the Home page (What is it?), found the shortcode (I think) and placed it. It now shows the word Testimonials instead of the text in […], but won’t “popup” the actual testimonial. Would you have a few minutes to check what I did on Draft Home Page? (After 5 attempts, for some reason I can’t get the link to embed properly! Could you please use the Draft Home Page link in my earlier post? Sorry!)

As you suggested, I tried the same shortcode on a page where InfoPopup is working and got the same result. Obviously I’ve missed some essential code. Hoping you can see what it is.

Did check popup settings and everything looks correct there. I typed a test quote in the Content box of Settings.

Sorry this is taking so much of your time!

    Hi Linda,
OK, I can see where you have the link, and but something doesn’t look quite right, AND there is no jQuery (possible plugin conflict).

    1. Are you copying and pasting the whole shortcode correctly, and at text level (not visual level)?
    2. Try renaming the shortcode (preferably copy the content of it, delete it, and create a new one with a different name).

If all else fails, if you can set me up a temporary login (and send the details to me via email – not on this forum), I could take a quick look myself.

    Rgds,
    Simon

Not sure what the jQuery would look like (sorry) but will try your suggestions before testing plugins.

    1. I am doing the pasting in text/HTML tab. Here’s what I pasted in:
    <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span id='infopopup-link-challengetestimonials' class='infopopup-link' infopopup_tag='challengetestimonials'>Testimonials</span></span>
    Is it the shortcode?

    2. Not completely sure what you mean here. Do I change popup name from “challengetestimonials” and then make necessary changes in the code I pasted here?

Will try to follow these suggestions and really appreciate your offer if I just can’t make it work! Wow!

Your popup short code should be in this format:

    [infopopup:challengetestimonials]

Got it. I do have that code. Does it go where I had placed all the <span> code above?

Sorry to be unfamiliar with the correct terms. I am feeling guilty about taking up so much of your time. Another possible option would be to use an “anchor link” to other site pages where there are testimonials. Not as elegant a solution but …

Been working with this some more, Simon. Tried deleting and renaming and, you’re right, something is blocking it on this particular page. When I tried the new name/short code [infopopup:challenge] on a different page, it worked.

This page has been an ongoing challenge in my “re-messaging” and editing attempts. The designer created a very special template and its various components are buried in php and CSS and other places I’m not overly familiar with.

I suspect the page and column setup of where I’m trying to insert these popups is what’s causing the problem.

Given this (and to save you time – you’ve been wonderfully generous with your time and help!), I think I should try just a link for now and leave the popup for the total site redesign later this year.

Do you agree? I value your more experienced opinion. Thanks.

Yes, it certainly sounds like the theme is the problem – it works on one page nicely but not on the other which is quite odd.
As it works (with the map image), did you copy the shortcode in exactly the same way as you did for the one that does work (to eliminate copy ‘n paste errors)?

It would be a shame if you abandoned it, but you could have a word with the developer of the bespoke theme.

Beyond that, there’s no further advice I can give on this really as this is really down to your site set up.

    Rgds,
    Simon

    Thanks so much again, Simon.

Yes, I did get the code copied exactly the same. Made doubly sure.

Given that the original web designer can no longer help us with this, I’ve decided to use anchor links for the testimonials on that particular page, but use your popup on the other 3 where it works just fine.

I very much appreciate your patience and willingness to help me get this right despite my “non techy” makeup! Your plugin is terrific and your customer support, fantastic. If you need any recommendations, I would be delighted to provide them.

    Thanks again.
