Good god I am regretting this, heard so much good about wordpress.
I was doing OK slowly following the youtube help screens. But I noticed from my email when I clicked to log in, it always came up blank, and I had to add /wp-admin.php/
I went into settings to do that, but it would not save, did not recognise the url or something, I dont get it all, I am a retired lady and just trying to set up a website for my dead husband. I cant remember what version, though I think it was the latest.
The page has now gone, all I get is the front screen, I cannot get back to the dashboardm why cant I speakt to someone, this is a nightmare
    Please sort this out
    Thank you

  • Is this a wordpress.com site or a self-hosted WordPress install?

Do not have a clue what bumping is, dont understand, what wordpress is all about. I registered with 123 for hosting and downloaded wordpress. But now all I get is the front screen saying the url is not recognised.

This is nothing to do with WordPress. Try asking your hosts for assistance.

“Bumping” is what they call replying to your own post, before anyone else has replied to it. It is a technique used by some people who wish to put their own thread back to the top of the list (in an attempt to be more noticeable). So, even if you have an after though, and want to write a second post as a kind of “PS…” or ” oh by the way…”, it is best not to do it, as it’ll be assumed you are “bumping”.

I went into the setting of wordpress.

Change the urls back. See Changing_The_Site_URL for details of how to do this correctly without logging in.

Well dont have a clue what a URL is but will have a read, hope this will work, if not I will get back to you,
    Thank you

Urls are site addresses. The settings that you changed in WordPress after it has been installed.

Jasiewics, what’s the website address? www. ???

    johnscherer.co.uk
I am reading away, but it all seems double dutch to me??

You broke this site when you changed the site urls (addresses) in Settings -> General. Now you need to change the urls back to what they were originally. Changing_The_Site_URL has all of the details of how to do this correctly without logging in.

    OK.
type in http://www.johnscherer.co.uk/wp-login.php into your web browser. It will ask you to log in (which you do with the username you chose when you installed wordpress.)
From my end, it’s not loading your theme properly, so I’m unable to see what you’ve inadvertently altered πŸ™‚

@wiresplus: That will not work. The site urls have to be changed back as I’ve explained above.

?? I get her login page from the link…?
