• I would love to totally disable the default WordPress mobile site view. It’s really awkward, blocks content and completely removes the look and feel of our theme.

We’re using Oxygen which has a great mobile theme… that only works when you select “go to standard site” on a smartphone.

Our home page doesn’t even display in the mobile view! I would like the default to be “standard site” and let our theme’s mobile settings do the rest of the work.

Check out http://www.exhibit-change.com to see what I’m talking about – from a desktop, smartphone and tablet. All very different experiences at the moment. I shudder to think what happens when we tweet out links to our site… I just hope everyone who clicks on a link is using a tablet.

  • There is no default WordPress mobile site view.

Yes there is. Visit any wordpress.org site on a mobile phone to see what I’m talking about.

Doesn’t matter what theme you have, WordPress has a default mobile site view.

wordpress.org has absolutely nothing to do with your self-hosted WP site.

… and you can switch between “view mobile site” & “view standard site” (these options are found at the bottom of the page). I want to disable or place priority for all devices to automatically start with the standard view.

Ummm, wordpress.org is for self hosted sites. WordPress.com isn’t…

    Are you really a moderator????

WordPress.org does not providing hosting for sites, it provides the software for other people to use their own sites on their own hosts.

Dear moderator & anyone else having the above issue:

To deactivate the WordPress.org mobile site view vs full site view on mobile devices, simply go into your dashboard, click on “Jetpack” and look for the mobile option.

Click “deactivate” to turn off “automatically optimize your site for mobile devices.” Voila!

In my case, it takes away the blue, stripped down mobile view and lets the Oxygen theme shine through.

    Not everyone uses Jetpack.

No, but if someone is asking how to turn off the default mobile view, there might be a good chance that they are using Jetpack.

I’m just trying to be helpful, and you know, point people towards potential solutions.

    epayknm you ARE the man!

for some strange reason this jetpack setting evaded me.
I searched the web and found just code modifications and unrelated things.

    cheers 🙂

    @epayknm THANK YOU!!
