• I’ve just installed WP in the root of my webspace at 1&1. The install seemed to go okay, however, I noticed an error message in the WP news section on the dashboard. And then, when I went into settings > permalinks I saw yet more errors. The front end looks fine.

This is the front end site >>
    http://www.mortonmcvay.co.uk

This is the dashboard error >>
RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: 10060: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

This is the permalink settings error >>

I also cannot install any themes (or plugins).

I’ve been going round in circles reading all sorts of things in this forum and in the documentation around .httaccess files, mod rewrite, etc. and other stuff I don’t understand. Please can someone help me?

    Thank you.

  • open_basedir restriction in effect.

This is a server issue. Contact your hosts about it.

Ok, so the host came back and I can now install themes etc. However, I still get the error on the permalinks settings page. I’ve checked and the permalinks are working as I want them too. Should I now ignore this error message or should I be concerned?

Go back to your hosts again, It may be that they simply do not offer hosting that is suitable for WordPress.
