• Hi everybody,

a client of mine wishes a website for his sport association. His wish: a wordpress website which contains subpages for a forum, an events page and a registration form.

    Conditions:

    FORUM
    – It should be possible to discuss different topics, like in this wordpress support forum.
    – Two different memberships: Club members and forum members; club members, who have registered via the registration form (see below), shall be able to see an additional topics part only for them which ordinary forum members can’t see.
    – Every member shall have a profile page with some details. The members shall be able to send messages to each other.

    EVENTS PAGE
    – The website admin shall post events here.
    – Club members shall be able to see additional events that forum members and ordinary website visitors can’t see.

    REGISTRATION FORM
    – You can sign up for either a full club membership or just forum membership.

    My questions:
What’s the easiest way to realize this project with wordpress?
Are there conditions that CANNOT be realized?
Could you please outline how to proceed?
Which plug-ins are most suitable for every page?

I’d be happy about any advice! 🙂

  • I would seriously consider using the simple:press plugin for your forum. I’ve used it, it’s fully featured, and will not disappoint. It’s a bit hard to get used to managing, and while the plugin itself is free, you will be charged a bi-monthly fee for support.

As for the events page, it really depends on what you’re trying to provide. If you want a calendar of events that can be hooked up to a content slider on one of your pages, you can accomplish that by using the following two plugins in tandem: The Events Calendar, and SlideDeck 2 Lite. In the interface for SlideDeck 2 Lite, you can tell the plugin to populate your content slider with posts from specific post types. If you choose the event post type created by the events calendar, it will automatically create slides based on your events. Of course, The Events Calendar is robust enough to be used on it’s own.

As for the registration form, I would recommend using the Membership plugin to create multiple levels of membership for different types of clients. It’s pretty easy to set up, and allows for you to create gated content. So it’s a really good plugin to use.
