• I like how the new version of WordPress displays the permalink under the title, but I strongly dislike how the permalink does not change when the title is edited. In the course of writing a post (before it is published), it’s not uncommon for me to go back and change the title at least once. In old versions, the post slug wasn’t set until the post was published so it always reflected the published title, whereas now unless I change it myself the post permalink remains as the first draft title. I think this is a bug that should be fixed.

  • That’s why if you click on the permalink you can change it instantly- at any time during post editing. The hint is the [edit] link.

That way you can set it to whatever you like, whenever you like.

Yes, but it means now if you make a spelling mistake on the title (say a typo) 2 seconds later the permalink is set and then you must edit in 2 places, even if you haven’t saved the post yet.

If you change the title of an unasaved (unpublished) post, shouldn’t the permalink change with it?

Exactly my point, rawalex. I know I can edit the permalink once it’s made, but when changing the title I have to make the same edit twice. You could change the permalink at any time during editing the old way, too, by setting the post slug.
