• I just logged into one of my sites this morning and the menu on the left hand side of the page is now missing. I’ve checked in both Chrome and Firefox and the issue is the same.

    Any suggestions?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

all plugins were deactivated – no fix.

default theme did not fix the problem.

this problem is now on three sites on my server. Could there be a server issue?

ok, happened to me too on two of my sites so far today. One running 3.8, and one running a much older version of wordpress. Came back after I reinstalled wordpress, but then disappeared again.

Same Here on all my WP in 3.8…

i re-installed WP3.8… seems to be Ok so far… but that weird, how come all sites ??!!
    (not on on a WP 3.2.1 )

    Anyone experiencing same issue ?

Is it totally missing or do you see a column of icons where the menu would be? If you see the icons, the menu is collapsed and can be displayed by clicking the bottom icon — which looks like an arrowhead in a circle.

    Hey Thanks,
but i know that man… i’m running maybe 10 WP websites for my clients.

The whole sidebar panel is totally missing.

Only a re-install of WP is turning the Sidebar panel back… and actually it’s not on all my WP 3.8 Websites, but on 5 of them on 10… which is a lot ! and all those
WP missing panel are not even on the same host…

Is this affecting several sites on the same hosting account or are they on different hosting accounts with the same host or on different hosts?

Please provide a link to one of the sites — Obviously I won’t be able to see the admin issue, but there may be some clues in the page source.

it’s affecting 5 WP Sites on the same Host, but i have another WP site who have not been affected, on the same host…

then other WP sites on other host have not been affected…

the one who is still affected is http://demo.jegher.fr

the other ones i’ve made the WP update…

i’m searching on the upload or uploads or upgrade folders… but nothing suspect so far…

for the one on same host, it’s a different account each time… i have a dedicated server.

To troubleshoot this, If you deactivate all of the plugins & switch to a default theme on the site that is still affected, does the admin menu reappear?

    no, it does not reappear

This is mikepauljr’s topic but it seems to have become derailed.

btwimages & AzMaz, Can I ask you each to start a new topic & post as much info as possible as the forums work better when when each topic sticks issue. Even when people have sites with an issue exhibiting similar symptoms, that does not mean that the root cause would necessarily be the same.

ok, but the problem is exactly the same. Hopefully his solution will be mine too

Same thing just happened to me on two separate sites using two different themes on 3.8. Both are on the same hosting account.

Tried deactivating all plugins and changing the theme to twenty-fourteen, -thirteen, and -twelve and still no admin menu.

Had to reinstall WP from the admin side(wp-admin/update-core.php) and the problem was fixed.

My only fix was to reinstall core WordPress files. Seems like this is a problem with 3.8. My hosting company had no other recommendations, but that fixed the problem.
