• Hi guys,

Does anybody know where I can find the file editor in version 2.5? It doesn’t seem to be under the manage tab anymore? I need to edit files in the root directory (not the themes directory) on a regular basis so found this feature very useful in the previous versions.

    Thanks in advance.

  • I never used it, so I can’t really assist you – but I want to suggest that you try your hand at using an ftp client.

the problem with web-based file editing is that there’s no undo feature and no backup to fall back on.

I use FTP for some tasks, the issue arises because I do a lot of work out on the road and dont want the hassle of downloading an FTP client each time I need to make simple alterations to a file.

    makes sense

has the file editior in wordpress being discontinued then or am I just being blind to it’s whereabouts?

I dont know where it used to be – but I did look for it now, and didn’t find it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if its gone, it wouldn’t exactly qualify as a core feature. Maybe there’s something else you can download and put in your web space to offer this function – perhaps even a better implementation of it.

    I can’t find in 2.5 either.

But it’s still mentioned in the documentation.

Any official word on whether this was removed intentionally?

There’s a simple text file that my clients update online. I’d rather not have to teach them the download, edit, upload route.

The documentation says it should be under the Files – Manage area, but it’s definitely not there.

Foo. I wish I knew how to create plug ins…
