• Hi folks,

I’m rebuiling my blog DaveZan.com after switching hosts. But in the midst of doing so, as the title says, my permalinks, category links and pages aren’t working.

After uploading my last sql thingie, I went into Permalinks to use its original setting as blog/%category%/%postname%.html. After I clicked on one of my posts’ titles, it kept giving me a 404.

Same thing happens with my category links and pages. None of them work.

Strangely, when I set my permalinks to default, all the links start to work. Of course, this poses a dilemma since I want my posts to be “pretty” for SEO.

Out of curiosity, I installed a “test” blog under my main one. It’s http://DaveZan.com/test .

After installing that test blog, I changed its permalinks to custom /%category%/%postname%.html . I got a message telling me to update my .htaccess, but I noticed there’s no htaccess file.

So I logged into my VPS hosting and created the .htaccess file. I CHMOD’ed it to 666 as the Permalinks docs indicated somewhere, re-saved the permalinks setting for custom, and it saved it.

However, same 404 happens when I click any blog link. Post title, page, category, everything.

I put in phpinfo and it gave the following modules:

    core prefork http_core mod_so mod_access mod_auth mod_auth_anon mod_auth_dbm mod_auth_digest util_ldap mod_auth_ldap mod_include mod_log_config mod_logio mod_env mod_mime_magic mod_cern_meta mod_expires mod_deflate mod_headers mod_usertrack mod_setenvif mod_mime mod_dav mod_status mod_autoindex mod_asis mod_info mod_dav_fs mod_vhost_alias mod_negotiation mod_dir mod_actions mod_speling mod_userdir mod_alias mod_rewrite mod_proxy proxy_ftp proxy_http proxy_connect mod_cache mod_suexec mod_disk_cache mod_file_cache mod_mem_cache mod_cgi mod_php5

My VPS is linux w/ Apache, if it helps. Unfortunately I’m not really a techie, although I think I can understand something if it were kinda broken down in english. 🙂

Anyone suggest the next step for me to explore? My main blog is currently set for default permalinks, but I’m hoping to resolve that pretty permalinks thing ASAP.

For now, let’s use my davezan.com/test blog to…well…test. But I don’t really know what’s the next thing for me to try to get this resolved.

    Thanks.

    David

Friendly yet sad bump. I still can’t get my link titles, categories and pages to work if I change my permalinks. 🙁
