• I’m considering changing my site to wordpress.org. This would include combining my main .com site and a blogger.

I was almost ready to download & start working on it. Last night and today, I’ve combed through the forums. But, now I’m not sure if I’m confusing myself more by reading the forums or scaring myself away, thinking this may require more code knowledge than I have.

I’m fairly familiar with html editing. I know the basic commands. I know enough that I can do what I need with html. However, I am more comfortable with programs such as FrontPage, Word, Excel, where what you see is what you get. Unfortunately, they aren’t compatible with or recommended for WP. The text editors I’ve looked at (recommended by wp) all look to be plain text. I’m confident that I can adjust.

I apologize for the following stupid questions. I’m just trying to make sure if & when I do this, I can get my entries/articles up, so the site is up and running as quickly as possible.

Why do I need a separate text editor if WP offers one?

Blogger offers comment moderation. Does WP? Or would I have to delete all unwanted comments after they are posted?

WP.com allows me to import entries and comments from blogger. Does WP.org? Or if I have to copy all entries over, is it possible to backdate them to the original date posted?

I may have some other stupid questions, please bear with me?

  • 1. Separate editor optional. See Editing Files
    2. WordPress allows comment moderation. See Administration > Comments > Comments
    3. Yes to importing. See Administration > Manage > Import

Thank you. For some reason I thought it was harder/different than wp.com’s site. I also found out that godaddy does install, I just have to do the upgrade. Then copy all the entries over. I realized that the text editor was just to change the sample config. Now I’m just having issues connecting thru filezilla. I just did it thru godaddy’s ftp. Thanks again!

Remember, you can Manage->Export your posts etc from WordPress.com and do Manage->Import->WordPress on your new domain.

the only reason you see so much code posted here, is because self-hosted wordpress users like to fiddle with their themes and customise the crap out of everything.

you can leave that part until you’re more confident.

Thanks Michael, thats what I ended up doing. I saw that on here somewhere. Am so thankful for the help here. OK, now I’m really feeling stupid, because I’d like to mark this as resolved, but don’t see an option for that. LOL
