Support » Fixing WordPress » Moving a large site

  • Hi – I have a tricky sitch.

We have a version of our site on a testing platform, tweaking the theme and some of the functions.

Our live site is active – we are selling things and getting new users every day.

We want to put the site in maintenance mode – move the site – move the db and take site out of maintenance mode.

What tables in the DB are controlling the widget and the look and feel changes and what tables are user/post focused. I would like to be able to move the site and not loose most of the changes the designer has made. Or – are the two inexorably intertwined?

Thank you for your help and time!

  • Have you checked out installing a “widget saver” plugin? There are several available for exactly this situation. Also, migrating might be easier with a “migrate, clone move or duplicator” plugin. Most import: backup first.
