.htaccess file does not reflect changes

I’m having some trouble with a client’s site regarding the root .htaccess file. For a while now we’ve had to put a deny/allow redirect whitelist on their .htaccess file to prevent all but a few IP addresses from accessing the login page for the admin dashboard due to brute force attacks on their site, and their host recently set up a new server with better security that is supposedly not vulnerable to these attacks any more- so I removed the whitelist and the redirect code from the .htaccess file a few days ago.

The problem that arises is that when I try to log in am still being redirected, several days after making the change, and no further changes affect the result at all- I’ve completely removed the old .htaccess file that had this code, I’ve changed the current .htaccess file, and even removed it entirely, with no change whatsoever. I am still being redirected every time, regardless of what changes I make to the file.

So, is the site possessed? If so, does anyone know a good exorcist? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
