Hi GSJ,
you need to filter your ‘public’ IP address (the other one you see in SlimStat). There’s currently no way to filter visits by originating IP Address.

Hi Camu,
But my “public IP address” is what is being shown as the “originating IP address” on Right Now?
And there is a different IP address noted just before this?
Eg. My public IP address is 121.73.51.82 (according to a Google search of “what is my public IP address”).
In Right Now it shows: GSJ (103.22.201.65) (Originating IP: 121.73.51.82)…

GSJ,
apparently there’s a firewall/proxy between you and your website, but not between you and Google π

Ok, how do I remove this? Something to do with my host or on my cPanel?
I’m not sure your host will allow to “remove” that π But you can always ask…

Hi camu,
My host said this:
“There is a firewall on the server (there isn’t a proxy though). No settings have changed on this server in quite a long time. So if the plugin has worked previously then it should continue working. Can you please let me know what port number the plugin uses to communicate with to gather its information?”
Do you know what this port number is?
Thanks,
GSJ
Hi GSJ,
the plugin uses port 80, but the issue here is that the firewall is manipulating the headers that it sends to the server. WP SlimStat looks for the typical HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR and REMOTE_ADDR. The issue could be fixed if they could configure the firewall to forward not its own IP address but the visitor’s.
Alternatively, we have a premium add-on that can fix this for you:
http://slimstat.getused.to.it/addons/wp-slimstat-firewall-fix/
Thanks,
Camu

Hi camu,
Thanks, my hosts response:
“Their solution to reconfigure the firewall on our end wouldn’t be possible unless you had your own server (eg. VPS or dedicated server).
I am not sure why there premium add on would fix this issue, however that would be the only way of accomplishing what you need in a shared environment unfortunately.”
So I might try your premium add-on and see if it helps.
Basically the add-on swaps the two ip addresses before Slimstat logs that pageview π However you will still need to filter your hosting’s firewall IP in the settings. But at least your reports will be not skewed.

Hi Camu,
I have installed the Add-on, and am trying to find where to put the licence key in?
In the Add-ons section it lists the Firewall Fix Add-on and says $10, but I have already bought it and there is not place to enter the licence key?
Did you install and activate the add-on? π

Yeah, it is installed and activated and showing in my plugins list…
That’s strange. Are you sure your page wasn’t cached? Can you check again?

Yeah I’ve deleted the cache a few times, but there’s still nowhere to enter the licence key.
Now my public IP address is showing first, but a different address is showing as the originating IP.
Even though this public IP address is in the filter.
Same for all other users.
