• *To find out the “ugly” scroll to the bottom of this review!*

Well, I was looking for a way to embed video into my WordPress pages and, after some limited research, this seemed to be it. I downloaded the ‘free’ plugin and then paid the $67 to get the ‘full’ version.

Unfortunately my account didn’t get upgraded after the purchase so this required that I contact support (support not bad – they got back to me within the 48 hour deadline that was promised).

The plugin didn’t work very well for me at all. I’m only running a simple theme and this was the only plugin installed (apart from Akismet) so not sure what the problem was.

I probably would have contacted support again had it not been for the inordinate amount of spam marketing crap I received from these people! I was appalled. Very soon after buying the plugin I began to get bombarded with emails trying to sell me other things. I ‘unsubscribed’ from every email but they kept coming!!

    So…
The Good – timely support (hence 2 stars instead of 1)
The Bad – the plugin didn’t work for me
The Ugly – a torrent of unsolicited spam emails and ‘marketing’ junk.

My advice is avoid this one and try Easy Video Player or one of the other plugins available.

I’ve since (after a few emails) got a refund and I’m off to download EVP now and (hopefully) get a much less stressful experience.

  • Hi Johnny,

Thanks for your flamboyant review. Here are some facts:

    1) If the upgrade didn’t happen automatically, I do apologize. Sometimes with software, there are glitches. I’m glad we got it fixed.

    2) Are you sure it wasn’t working correctly? Or is it possible that you didn’t know ho to use it? We have quite a few users, so I would honestly lean to the latter.

    3) Yes, we do send recommendations for software from time to time. We also sent emails with FREE plugin recommendations. Basically, just stuff we think rocks whether it’s free or paid.

In the past 2 weeks we’ve send one email letting our customers and subscribers know about a free WP plugin that is great, one email about a contest to win a prize (again nothing for sale), and two emails about a software product that I personally use that is on sale and highly recommend. I would hardly call that “unsolicited spam”.

I’m sorry but I have to also say, that if you say you unsubscribed and the email kept coming then this is quite honestly complete BS. We use AWEBER so if you unsubscribed, you are unsubscribed and no longer get any emails.

Aweber is one of the most well known email marketing companies out there. I don’t know if you really are a customer or you have an agenda, but you should realize that your BS affects real people and real businesses.

If anyone has any doubt as to my sincerity, contact me on Facebook or email. I am actually a real person as opposed to “Johnny”. My FB ID is willzimm at hotmail dot com and my email is bill.zimmerman at imwenterprises dot com.

    Hi Bill,

Thank you for that lightly veiled tirade. I was going to leave it at that but have decided to reply.

Firstly, I can assure you that I am a ‘real’ person. Technology has come a long way in the last few years but, as far as I’m aware, we have yet to invent a device who’s sole purpose is to write derogatory comments about your plugin.

Secondly, Yes – I am sure your plugin wasn’t working correctly. I’m a php programmer of over 10 years and have developed many plugins of my own (the answer to your next predictable response is “time – I needed a solution quickly”). I am more than familiar with WordPress etc. Whenever I clicked anything on your plugin it simply went blank, the plugin page – not the WordPress admin section. Almost like your plugin was within an iframe.

Thirdly, just because you use professional grade software to spam your customers doesn’t make unsolicited mail any more palettable from your customers point of view. Perhaps you should consider an “opt-in” approach like most ethical companies?

    All the best

While this exchange is interesting to read (gripping, could not put it down) there’s a bit of a problem this review.

I downloaded the ‘free’ plugin and then paid the $67 to get the ‘full’ version.

Which part are you reviewing? If it’s the plugin in the WordPress repository then that’s fine. Problem is that’s not what you’re reviewing. All you’ve put in about the plugin is “the plugin didn’t work for me” and you haven’t even tried to get support.Try that first next time before leaving a review.

    http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/vooplayer

You don’t like or have a problem with the plugin author and you’re leaving a complaint in the wrong place.

I’m not deleting this review (yet) even thought it’s not really valid. If you want to complain about the plugin author then please take it somewhere else.

If you want to leave a review about the code that’s hosted here then please do so.

@bill_z? Perhaps walking? You’re reply wasn’t much better.

    See this part?

In the past 2 weeks we’ve send one email letting our customers and subscribers know about a free WP plugin that is great, one email about a contest to win a prize (again nothing for sale), and two emails about a software product that I personally use that is on sale and highly recommend. I would hardly call that “unsolicited spam”.

If the user did not subscribe (did not solicit you to send them an email) then yes, that’s spamming. Don’t do that with plugins in the repo here. Really don’t.

If the user opted in then cool. But that doesn’t seem to be the case. Spamming isn’t about volume it’s about being “unsolicited”.

Hi Jan – I’m sure you’re glued to your seat.

It’s not spamming. He was a customer who purchased a product and part of those terms gets him on our customer list. If he doesn’t like what we send, he can unsubscribe. Just like Amazon and any other vendor online. We comply with CAN-SPAM Act completely.

He doesn’t like the product, fine. He wants a refund, fine. But don’t come on here and say we “spammed” by sending “inordinate” amounts of email and then tried to unsubscribe yet we still sent you emails. It’s just flat out not true.

This will be my last response. Take care 🙂

    Understood Jan. Apologies.

Just came back to WordPress Plugins and ended up back on this review page (must have bookmarked it).

Just wanted to point out to Jan (or any other moderator reading this) that a lot of the ‘positive’ reviews of this plugin look ‘faked’.

Certainly I would wager that ‘getwise’ (review left on 6th May) ‘timt9t’, ‘markstalford’ and ‘angelos1979’ (all left on 7th May) seemed very suspicious.

Just thought I’d mention it as if you discount those ‘positive’ reviews then the actual reviews left seem to back up my own experience of the plugin just giving a blank screen and not working correctly.
