call nimble portfolio from template

I’m trying to embed the portfolio into a custom template.

The template is using Roots as its base (http://roots.io/)

I have a custom page set up and I’ve tried to include the portfolio using this code:

<?php echo do_shortcode('[nimble_portfolio]'); ?>

But it just echo’s back the shortcode which means its not recognising it.

Seems like perhaps its calling it before the shortcode is registered? Does that plausible? Does anyone know how I can work around this?
