In your docs you write about main site, sub-sites, sub-blogs and main blogs in practically the same paragraphs (see Global Mode Options.

Please define and compare each. For example how is the main site related to a sub-blog and how is a sub-blog related to a sub-site?

When enabled, you have further options available to you for modifying the way Events and Locations are shared.

Global Event Options

Display global events on main blog?

Displays events from all sites on the network by default. You can still restrict events by blog using shortcodes and template tags coupled with the blog search attribute.

Link sub-site events directly to sub-site?

When displaying global events on the main site you have the option of users viewing the event details on the main site or always direct them to the sub-site. If you select ‘No’, then a duplicate events page will be created and attached to your Events Page (must be enabled on your main blog for this to work). So for example, if your events page is mysite.com/my-events/, then a sub-site event might be mysite.com/my-events/event/a-subsite-event/, yet main site events will still have the format of mysite.com/events/main-site-event/

This is important if you expect users to have separate gateway information such as paypal addresses on their sub-site, if so you should enable this, so that booking payments aren’t made to the main blog gateway accounts (more interoperability with PayPal and sub-sites is planned for the near future).

Global event slug

If you have chosen to display sub-site events on your main blog, you can modify the slug appended to your events page, so instead of mysite.com/courses/event/a-subsite-event/, you could modify this and have it be mysite.com/courses/course/a-subsite-event/

Global Location Options

Locations on main blog?

If you would prefer all your locations to belong to your main blog, users in sub-sites will still be able to create locations, but the actual locations are created and reside in the main blog. This means that the actual WordPress post object will belong to the main blog, and a slightly different interface will be shown in the admin area (similar to the public location forms or those used with BuddyPress). Subsequent options will not be considered if this is chosen

The docs refer to the set up of WordPress Multisite so it would probably be better if you read up on Multisite and what it is: http://mashable.com/2012/07/26/beginner-guide-wordpress-multisite/

I already know that and I have read that article and the Codex prior to installing Multisite or your plugin

None of the terms you use, as indicated in bold, are ever mentioned in the codex or that article. I do not know what a sub-blog or a sub-site is or the difference between the two. Is a sub-site a real wp site in the Network?. Seems to be an EM invention.

Can you provide a definition of these terms using the same terminology as the WP Codex?

By main blog the doc means Network Admin, by sub-site the doc means any other site created through Network Admin.

ok. thanks. but not beat a dead horse, let me get this straight:

The Main Blog is actually the Network Admin dashboard? And subsite includes the first site listed under Network Admin under My Sites that was created during initial installation (my company site) — and actual sites created by end users (or Network admin)? Are the subsites what the Codex refers to as “virtual sites.”

Is Main Site the same as Main Blog? And is Sub-site same as Sub-blog? It seems from above that maybe when you mention “site” you are referring to dashboard?

The terms “sub site” and “sub blog” are interchangeable and are common terminology for referring to sites within a Multisite network.

“Main site” and “main blog” are also interchangeable and similarly common terminology for referring to the primary site of a Multisite network.

A quick search for all of these terms on Google reveals their frequent usage and meaning, with the EM docs simply adopting the terms used extensively by the WordPress community as a whole.
