Support » Plugin: Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth » Tiled Gallery: More speed if original image is smaller?

    Hi.
I noticed that the tiled galleries sends out the original image file to the Photon engine. Since these images are sometimes rather big, it must speed up the process of constructing the tiled galleries if the original images were smaller, right?

Is there a way to tell the tiled galleries to use the full-size images instead to the Photon server for resizing?

    Thanks,
    Andri

I’m afraid you cannot customize the size of the images used by Tiled Galleries. I don’t think you have to worry about the gallery building process, though: the original images are only uploaded once, and then are resized and cached by Photon.
When you view the gallery for the first time, it can indeed take longer if your images are larger, but once the images are resized and cached you do not have to worry about it anymore.

Since you’re most likely the first person viewing the galleries you create, I don’t think that’s something you should worry about.

I hope this clarifies things a bit.

Thanks Jeremy, that clears things up. I will put my faith on the cache in Photon for now.

Two other things I´m having problem with…

    1. I sometimes need to refresh the page to make the gallery construct the right way. The image sizes will be correct but it will display one image per row. I then hit refresh and then they stack up correctly. Any reason why that could be?
I have set the content-with variable on the theme to the same with as the parent container of the tiled gallery.

    2. I am also using the carousel plugin of Jetpack. The attachment page of the the photo that I click on will open behind the carousel and show when the carousel is closed. I even have the “link to” in the gallery settings set to “none”. How can I stop the attachment page from opening?

    Thanks,
    Andri

I can’t think of any reason. When you experience such issues, it would be useful to check your browser’s Javascript console to see if any javascript errors cause the problem.

That’s a known Jetpack issue. We’re working on getting this fixed, and you can follow our progress here:

I’ll post again when the issue is fixed.

There are no javascript errors in the console. The carousel also doesn’t open when the tiled gallery is messed up.

I’m not sure that this is the same carousel issue that I have.
The carousel works fine, I just want it not to open the attachment page of the image behind the carousel. It doesn’t matter if the link is set to image file or attachment page. The action is always performed and the carousel opens. I would think that the carousel should disable other link actions of the images in the gallery when the carousel is used.

    Thanks,

Could you point me to one of the pages where you experience the issue, so I can have a closer look?
