• Yes, I know the difference between pages and categories; however, I am using a Sidebar Plug-in that only works for pages so I have to create “dummy” pages to show the categories and make use the sidebars.

After hours and hours of frustration I am <this> close to what I want. My only remaining issue is that it is showing the full post and not either the text before the <more> in the post, or the excerpt I created for the post.

I know that the custom template is using a “get” post part which is giving me all my formatting, which is great, but all coding I have read to show an excerpt instead of the full post doesn’t work. All <more> tags work perfectly on regular pages and category “pages” so I think I just need to know how to replicate this on my custom templates.

    Appreciate any help.

  • I’m sorry but your chosen theme is not released under GPL. Official WordPress policy states that all plugins and themes that are publicly released are required to adhere to http://wordpress.org/about/gpl/

I would also strongly recommend that you read this article and consider changing to a theme from a reputable source asap.

According to their website they do comply with the requirements you have quoted. They currently have over 450 themes which have been downloaded over two million times. Are you suggesting they are not “reputable”, as this is a serious accusation?

Yes – I am suggesting that. Ask them why they have encoded content in their theme and numerous static links. No theme on WPORG would be allowed so do this kind of thing.

And the number of themes that any theme supplier has available is no guarantee of anything. There are large scale theme suppliers out there who we would suggest you avoid at all costs.

Here is the response I received from FThemes –

    Hi Gary,

Our themes do meet the requirements of the WordPress license. All derivative works (ie the PHP code) is released under GPLv2. Other works such as images, photoshop and javascript files that don’t interact with WordPress directly are under a different license, which adheres to WordPress conditions. You can view this information on our terms page:

If you have any other questions let me know.

So why doesn’t the code work?

No idea. Ask them. And ask them about the encoded content and static links whilst you’re there. Did you read the article at the link I posted above. Guess which theme supplier is being referenced (amongst others)?

I’ve actually received an email from the theme developer so I’m asking him to confirm all this so I can switch themes now if I have to despite all the work I’ve already done.
