I have a website using WordPress Twentythirteen theme. Before creating a child theme, in this website with the default twentythirteen theme I have uploaded my custom header image (instead of the default orange image) and created menus to fit the subject of the website. Now, when I created a child theme of twentythirteen by creating styles.css and footer.php (to add copyright information in the footer), everything is displayed well in the child theme except the header image switched to default and menu structure of the main menu disappeared. Any idea why this happened?

  • Yep, that’s how child themes work – you have to set theme options and settings in the child theme – they aren’t transferred from a parent theme.

Much appreciated. Thanks for your reply, this is very helpful. I hope now that when the parent theme is updated, my custom footer will not be affected.
