BLANK WHITE ADMIN PAGE – No access.

I had not made any changes to our web page since 2011. Nor had I updated my theme or wordpress. Back in August I logged in and made a couple of minor changes. When I tried to go to the admin page last week I got a blank white admin page. http://www.mikemcenroe.com is the site.

I have been reading through all previous forums that mentioned the problem, and have exhausted all the remedies which worked for others.

As I mentioned, I had not updated my theme or wordpress since 2011. After getting the blank admin page last week, I downloaded the latest version of wordpress and installed it using filezilla. It made no difference.

I have renamed my plug in folder as “Plugins.hold”
I have searched through functions.php files everywhere they are found in my directory and deleted spaces at the top and bottom of the text: no difference.

I looked in my wp-config.php and I have no idea if anything is amiss because I am functionally illiterate when it comes to this stuff.

So I have no idea what to do and I’m screwed. Any help? Anyone? Damn it.

I also tried deleting the theme I was using (it had also not been updated since 2011) to see if WP-admin would open with default theme. That didn’t help matters either. It just made my site disappear, so I restored the theme, and still can’t get to my admin page.

What happens if you try to login here:

    Blank white page.

Other forums had suggested that too. Others who had blank admin pages were able to access that way.

When I’m logged in, my web-page doesn’t look any different: there are ordinarily dark bars at the top and bottom of the screen with editing options. This doesn’t happen when I log in now. My page looks the same whether I’m logged into WP or not – and page/wp-admin and the page/wp-login.php are both just blank.

Do you have a copy of the default theme(s) in your themes folder?

Try re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and the wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Thanks for responding Wpyogi – much appreciated.

    1. Yes I do have the default themes 2011 – 2013
    2. I disabled my Dandelion theme by renaming the folder hoping that my admin page would open in a default theme, but no dice.

    3. I uploaded a new version of wordpress yesterday, but I’m going to down load it again now and give it another shot, being careful to follow your suggestion exactly.

thanks again I’ll post again here with the results shortly.

I’ll be following this closely since I screwed up my multi-site during the update to 3.6.1

I cannot get to the dashboard (or frontend) for the primary site (white screen, no debug info, view source just shows 5 blank lines. grrr

So I’ll be copying in all the files except the wpms and site specific ones too.

    Good luck!

@ron Strilaeff – I would not equate a multi-site to a single install or someone else’s site as the same as your situation. Have you posted in the multisite forum?

    Damn.
    1. I downloaded word press and uploaded and overwrote everything except the content folder. Result: no difference – still get a blank page at http://www.mikemcenroe.com/wp-admin/ and at http://www.mikemcenroe.com/wp-login.php.

I then went back to the hypothesis that my theme is the problem. . .So

    2. I disabled dandelion (the theme I use) by adding “.hold” to the file names hoping that the page would load with a default theme. http://www.mikemcenroe.com disappeared and my /wp-admin page was remained a blank white abyss.

    3. Could it be a problem with my server? (I use laughing squid). ???

    Damn.

It’s worth asking them. I still see your theme – is it deactivated? Is your plugins folder renamed to plugins.HOLD at this point also?

Sorry.. I was not aware of forum specifically for MS… thanks and good luck!

    (@eaturner)

Yes my plug-ins folder is named plugins.hold.

Yeah dandelion is still there, I renamed it so it wouldn’t be used and my website disappeared, but I was still unable to visit my admin page, so I restored it because I was worried about customers trying to use our site and its online forms.

There are two folders: one simply called “dandelion” the other is called “dandelion v. 2.5” which is a 2 year old version of the theme. I downloaded the latest version and uploaded it, but it made no difference – still blank white /wp-admin page.

I renamed one dandelion file and then the other. My site is unaffected by “dandelion” being renamed, but disappears when “dandelion v 2.5” is renamed. When I rename either or both my /wp-admin page is still blank white.

    Damn.

this repeats over and over again. What is that about? Is this an indicator of my problem?

@wpyogi, I’m finally back up. I deleted everything and reloaded WordPress and the newest version of Dandelion and made a new wp-config page and this has somehow restored my access. . . .Whatever.

    Thanks for responding

    Bingo!

Thank you eaturner. Finally. I was tearing my hair out, re-editing functions.php, changing the MySql, deleting and re-installing plugins etc. Still, the wp-admin page would not appear.

Re-installing WP did the trick. Thanks a bunch…
