• Is there a simple plugin the will allow me to have multiple user on my site, that can each edit only an individual or a small number of pages. Once the edit has been completed the edit would ideally need to be approved before going live on the site.
The reason: I have a number of branches and I think it would be great if they each had a page or a couple of pages they can update. As it is a business site the amendments would need proofing before live to the world.
Any ideas, plugin recommendation, walk through’s?

  • Hello julesthomas,

I have not used this plugin before, but it appears that http://wordpress.org/plugins/role-scoper/ might offer the functionality that you are looking for.

    Hi NetCom,

I did spot that one, however the thing that stands out for me on the description is that it is no longer supported and not compatible with the current WordPress version 🙁

    Otherwise seemed perfect

    RoleScoper seems up-to-date:

    Requires: 3.0 or higher
    Compatible up to: 3.6.1
    Last Updated: 2013-9-21
    Downloads: 339,273

What plugin is the one that’s no longer supported?

OK, my bad…I guess this part:

Role Scoper is no longer actively developed. For feature requests (including plugin compatability issues) and WP 3.7+ compatibility try the successor plugins, Press Permit Core and Press Permit Pro. See the RS-PP feature comparison grid for details.

    So Press Permit Core perhaps?

lol, it did seem perfect, I took a look at their other product, press permit core and I am either being very dim or it doesn’t do what i want it to or it is simply to complicated for me to fathom how to get it to do what I want it to!

So you want basically a contributor role for your users, the only difference being is allowing them to edit only certain already existing pages and not allow them to create new ones? Say for example, the marketing team could only update the marketing specific pages and no others (and other non-marketing users could edit the marketing pages).

    Hi julesthomas,

I apologize for the bad recommendation. It seems I missed the big bold disclaimer in the second paragraph “Role Scoper is no longer actively developed.” lol!

I believe Scriptrunner’s last question was a good one. This functionality could be implemented with some custom PHP script in the functions.php file, however I am still looking for a plugin that will address the issue easily.

I sometimes write plugins (and submit to WordPress.org) based on some bit of functionality someone here is looking for (to avoid having to update functions.php). This is one case where I might do that, as long as it’s not reinventing a wheel.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

    No worries NetCom 🙂
Scriptrunner, please do let me know if you are considering writing this plugin, php is beyond my skill set – but yes you have hit the nail on the head. I want certain people to be able to update an existing page and no others and also be unable to add any further pages or posts.

I look forward to your replies.

    Jules

julesthomas – I’ll definitely take a look at other plugins first, as this sure seems like something somebody else might have tackled before. If not, I’ll add it to my “plugin ideas” list.

That’s very kind, thanks very much for your help 🙂
