500 server error on windows laptop but not ipad?

    Hi
    I am a wordpress newbie and in adding a plugin my entire site went to 500 internal server error on my windows 8 laptop. On my ipad and iphone the site is still there and working fine. On speaking with the plugin author I was told it could be a rogue cookie and to delete history etc which I did via tools>internet options>, yet still the same problem.
    Any advice greatly appreciated as I am baffled.
