    Hi,
I am very interested in learning and using Timber! However, today on my Hostgator account, I set up a new instance of WordPress (3.6.1) and downloaded Timber (latest version) but I get the following error message upon trying to activate:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /.../public_html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/timber-library/timber.php on line 381

I am using PHP 5 and the WordPress install is brand new and clean (no other plugins are running). I have also tried installing and activating the plugin on my other WordPress sites and get the same error.

Hey Bruice! Can you check your PHP version? Timber uses some closures (http://php.net/manual/en/functions.anonymous.php) which were introduced in PHP 5.3

    Hi Jarednova,
    Thanks for your response!
My PHP version is apparently 5.2.17 so I’ll have to create a ticket for Hostgator to update this (which they’ll hopefully do).
Is there a previous revision I can use in the meantime? From the plugin’s WordPress page I can download the older versions.

No need to worry. I have updated the htaccess file to use php 5.3 and WordPress successfully activated the plugin now 🙂
Thanks for the help! I look forwards to creating Timber themes!

Not sure on which version requires it — I’ve already added a better warning when that happens that will be in the next release
